In the 1800's, there were 3 different versions of Vanity Fair before it was purchased by Condé Nast Publications in 1913, and became Dress and Vanity Fair. Vanity Fair relaunched again in 1914, and showcased work by modern artists and illustrators, essays, and celebrity portraits. In 1936, Condé Nast suspended the publication due to the Great Depression and the leading up to World War 2. However, it resumed again in 1983, and in 1991, they began publishing an international edition. Today, Vanity Fair focuses on celebrities, culture, beauty & fashion, and politics.
